Pan in Harmony

Every calypsonian wants the big steelbands to pick up his/her tunes and play them at Carnival time—and as the years pass, and pan becomes more and more central to Trinidadians' conception of their own culture, songs celebrating the pan have grown in popularity. Lord Kitchener wrote more beautiful music for pan than anybody. Like all good composers, he was always thinking about the instruments he was writing for, and he was one of the few good composers to think seriously about pan and steelband music—and how his tune would sound being played by the steelbands. "Pan In Harmony" is a perfect example. Composed by Kitchener, and performed here as an instrumental, it's one of the sweetest pan tunes ever written.
